TCF Artist Spotlight: Los Guerreros de la Musica
Los Guerreros de la Musica (LGM), which means the warriors of the music (or music warriors), is from the great city of Houston, TX. according to LGM’s percussionist Stephen Araujo, it is difficult to explain their style because they are constantly evolving musically and don’t want to put limits on themselves with labels. But if you had to categorize the style, it is best described as a healthy blend of Spanish Rock, Cumbia, Ska, Reggae, Mariachi, Funk & Jazz. This interesting fusion has a little something for everyone — especially those who like to dance!
In just a short amount of time, LGM has already made a significant impact on the Houston Latino music scene. They won Gorilla Productions’ Battle of the Bands Prelims in May of 2010 and Finals in September of 2010, a contest based on ticket sales and crowd response. Houston has definitely taken notice of LGM, who has also performed at local events such as the 2nd & 3rd Annual East End Urban Arts Festival, MECA’s “Viva el Amor” & “Dia de los Muertos” celebrations, and the 2011 Houston International Festival. LGM was also nominated for “Best Latin Band” at the 2011 Houston Press Awards and was chosen “Best Band” at the 2012 ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run in downtown Houston.
LGM’s debut album is set to be released in May and they are scheduled to perform tomorrow (March 7th) at the Continental Club. Be sure to become a fan of LGM on Facebook and to follow them on Twitter for the latest and greatest in LGM news and updates!
